Finding My Style Postpartum

Size doesn’t matter.

Reread that again. Size doesn’t matter. I have had to say this to myself during my pregnancy and now right into postpartum. Believe me I know this is easier said than done but in my experience it’s what kept me going. My closet is my sanctuary. My safe place with pieces that I have carefully + thoughtfully collected over the years. It is where everything is housed that makes me feel like me.

During pregnancy, I would take out pieces as they started to become tighter to try and keep my spirits somewhat high about what I was wearing. By the end there wasn’t much but the few maternity pieces I had purchased to get me to the finish line. Now as I am in my third week postpartum I am slowly starting to get my spark back. Recovering from a c-section has been limiting what I can wear at the moment due to swelling that gets better everyday but I am excited for the weeks to come as we build some sort of routine and getting dressed for the day isn’t something I dread anymore.

My style has always gravitated towards basics. My go-to uniform still to this day is a great tee and a pair of jeans. I wanted to share a few of my favorite pieces that have been work horses in my closet for years and that I am slowly repurchasing in sizes that fit my body now instead of stressing to fit into my pre-pregnancy size. Again I know this is easier said than done but reminding myself that my body just went through hell and back + needs time to heal makes it a little easier.

Comfort has been key for me during this time.

  1. Aerie Keep It Light Crewneck | I have this exact crewneck in four colors and I am obsessed with them. It’s the perfect light jersey layer to throw on and go.

  2. Ira Bangle | A classic gold bangle to elevate any outfit. Wear it casually or dress it up. It’s a staple piece you will have for years that won’t go out of style.

  3. Buck Mason Soft Black Crew | This is one of my favorite brands to get quality basics from. This crew I have in three colors because it is so versatile. I can dress them up or pop on for a casual but put together look.

  4. Jelly Mesh Ballet Flats | I know these are trendy but something about them just feels nostalgic. They are great to just pop on and go to add a little fun to your look.

  5. Ray-Ban Original Aviator Sunglasses | These are my ride or die. I have tried different sunglass styles and always come back to my classic aviators. My pair is going on five years and still going strong. Love their gold blue light aviators as well.

  6. Nike Free Runs | Another work horse in my wardrobe. I couldn’t wear these during pregnancy because I needed more support but I am back walking in them and fell in love all over again. It doesn’t even feel like you have shoes on which I love.

  7. Aerie Smoothez Padded Sweetheart Bralette | I am formula feeding and this bralette is just the right amount of support without feeling weighted down.

  8. J.Crew Jersey Classic Fit Crewneck Tee | I’m a sucker for a quality tee. This heather grey color is everything.

  9. Zara High Waist Comfort Mom Fit Jean | The wash of these jeans caught my eye and not to mention the price. I’m not wanting to spend a fortune for jeans that might not fit in a couple of months, but want a pair to feel like a human again.

  10. J.Crew Jersey Long Sleeve Tee | This tee is a staple in my wardrobe. Paired with the Zara denim and Birkenstocks and my everyday uniform is complete.

  11. Birkenstock Arizona Suede Sandals | A tried and true staple. The comfort and style they provide is unmatched.

  12. Nike Tempo Running Shorts | Another activewear staple that I wear almost daily especially now during postpartum.

  13. L.L.Bean Boat and Tote | An iconic bag to have in your closet that can be used for so many different occasions. Not to mention how chic to take to the grocery store.
